Anime at the Palace

Anime Syracuse is proud to team up with FUNimation to bring you some of the latest anime releases.  These new FREE events will take place the third Monday of each month at the Palace Theatre.  As part of their “Anime at the Movies” program, we are the first and only locale on the East coast to feature a regular screenings series on a cinema screen!

The next installment takes place on Monday, July 19th at 6:30pm.  We’ll run several episodes from each series with a brief intermission between titles.  Also, FUNimation will graciously be providing prizes for special giveaways.  ADMISSION IS FREE so come out and join us – you should be watching!

In July we will be featuring:

My Bride is a Mermaid
, eps 1-3 (TV-MA)
Nagasumi’s in hot water after a beautiful, young mermaid named Sun saves him from drowning. The deep-sea sweetheart’s dad is a merman yakuza prone to executing anyone who learns his family’s scaly secret! Luckily, there’s a catch – if Nagasumi agrees to marry Sun, he just might avoid sleeping with the fishes!  Of course, the honeymoon ends before it even begins when Nagasumi finds his life flooded with gilled gangsters looking out for their boss’s little girl. The kid’s definitely in over his head, but there’s no denying the mermaid’s allure – Nagasumi’s hooked and Sun’s ready to come ashore!

Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy
, eps 1-3 (TV-PG)
The song may say “thank heaven for little girls”, but who is college student Keiichi Morisato supposed to thank when three honest to goodness Goddesses move in and take over his life? And should he really be all that grateful? After all, according to most mythologies, relationships between mortals and immortals usually leads to mortifying complications, so we’re already talking about an extremely mixed blessing! And when a FOURTH Goddess suddenly appears, that blessing quickly becomes a curse. Keiichi’s new friends may be trying to help, but sometimes Belldandy, Skuld, Urd, and Peorth seem less concerned with Keiichi’s safety than they are with establishing a pecking order and ownership rights!  The delicate celestial balance that exists between human and goddess is thrown into complete and utter chaos in Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy!

And did we mention it’s FREE to get in…?

To answer some questions you might have about this new series of events -

When will screenings take place?

Currently FUNimation screenings are scheduled for the third Monday of each month.  Our schedule for the summer:

June 21st, 2010  -  X & BECK Mongolian Chop Squad
July 19th, 2010  -  Ah! My Goddess: Flights of FancyMy Bride is a Mermaid
Aug 16th, 2010  -  Casshern Sins & The Count of Monte Cristo: Gankutsuou

Doors open at 6:30pm.  We will run several episodes of each/the first title with a brief intermission between series.

What do I need to do to attend?

Nothing.  Nil.  Nada.  Just show up at the door, walk in, find a seat, watch anime.  That simple.  We would ask that you make a trip to the concession stand – the Palace is playing host to our Otaku madness once more and it’s the least we can do to thank them!

Can I cosplay?

Any excuse, right?  If you do feel the urge, we ask that you be considerate and that your cosplay not be so elaborate that it would block the view of other audience members.  We’re all turning out to watch anime after all – everyone wants a clear view of the screen!

Can I request a specific series to be shown?

We’re happy to take down the request and pass it along.  Do keep in mind that this schedule depends on FUNimation’s release schedule, so not everything may be available at the time of your request.

Series previously screened:
Sept 21st, 2009 -  Nabari no Ou and Sgt. Frog
Oct 19th, 2009  -  Blassreiter and Romeo x Juliet
Nov 16th, 2009 -  Bamboo Blade and Spice & Wolf
Dec 21st, 2009  -  El Cazador de la Bruja and The Tower of Druaga
Jan 18th, 2010  -  Linebarrels of Iron and Sands of Destruction
Feb 15th, 2010  -  Soul Eater and Case Closed Movie 6: “The Phantom of Baker Street”
Mar 15th, 2010  -  Slayers RevolutionEvangelion 1.11
Apr 19th, 2010  -  Strike WitchesMushi-Shi (live action movie)
May 17th, 2010  -  Initial D Third StageFullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Sounds great, but why only once a month?

To get things started, we’re keeping it to one day a month (we will be showing 2 titles, however!).  If demand increases, we’ll look to add more screening dates.  It all depends on our audience!

  3. Genevieve says:

Me and my friend are making an Abridged Series of Elfen Lied, and episode one would be done today. Would it be okay to play it sometime during an intermission or something? Episode 1 shouldn’t run any longer than 10 minutes. :) (Also, everything is cencored. XD)
