Anime Syracuse Festival 2011 is hosting a bigger AMV contest. Enter our contest and have your AMV played at our Festival. We have prizes and giveaways for the best entries and a grand prize of…we haven’t decided yet!
The rules are as follows:
Entry Information:
One Entry per person, collaborations are acceptable but your participation counts as your single-person entry as well.
The submission cannot have won another contest for another con.
Attendance at the Anime Syracuse Festival 2011 is required to win a prize. To confirm this, you will be required to check in with the coordinator.
All videos must be appropriate for a PG-13 audience. If you don’t know if it’s too much, submit anyway. Rejected entries for excessive gore and fan service can be re-edited and enter again.
Entries must be received or postmarked September 15th, 2011. If entry is low, we will allow submissions the day of the convention, but be warned that if too many day of entries are received, we will have to place a cap on it.
Entries must be FTPed to the organizer, put on a free file storage site (Mediafire), mailed, or handed to the organizer in the form of a CD/DVD or Flash Drive with the video files.
Video Formats:
High Quality DVD footage only, at least 720×480 or 720×360.
Any subtitled entries will be disqualified and fansubbed entries will be barred from showing or entry. If the subtitles cannot be removed (ala Kingdom Hearts cutscenes) or are added by the creator this rule does not apply.
Videos must have no bumpers, logos, watermarks or artifacting.
They must also start with at least one second of black frames with no sound. Videos will be judged on their own merits, not on the editor.
Entries must be in a usable and convertible format such as MPEG II, MP4, .WMV, Uncompressed AVI, or H.264. Entries must be properly aspected at whatever their source is.
Entries must almost exclusively contain anime and/or Japanese video game footage to qualify.
Audio track in your entry cannot contain the original audio from the show. No exceptions. We are committed to respecting the anime distribution copyrights.
Judgment:
There will be four categories for prizes.
Most Original Concept (based on video originality)
Best Editing (based on a technical level)
Best in Show (best of both worlds),
and one surprise category (my secret).
The judgment will be based on AnimeMusicVideos.org’s opinion system.
Winners must approach the coordinator after the announcement to claim their prize.
To enter or ask questions send an email to AMVs@AnimeSyracuse.com for FTP information.
Entries may be mailed to:

Not exactly what FTP-ing to the Organizer is, could you instruct me as to how to manage that? (Just managed to work out some kinks in the program I was using, bloody heck it was difficult) If we choose to send through MediaFire, where do you drop you the link?
Please don’t include it in your video.
Would it be okay if the video had a brief dedication to someone? That wouldn’t count as subtitles or watermark… or should I just get rid of the “to… and from…” entirely?
I’m so happy! Thank you so much, I’ll get my entry in as soon as possible!
I’ve extended the deadline to September 15th.
I realize it is the 28th and that entries were due yesterday so if I had any hopes of entering it would have to be the day of, do you think you’ll be accepting then? I’m kicking myself because I meant to post yesterday but thought today was the 27th.
Awesome. Thanks!
Send it anyway.
Last weekend it supposedly won Best Romance/Drama at Matsuricon (2 youtubers said it did at least). I was going to send it in early to this con before any possible win could occur, but I totally forgot about the non-winning rule.
What did it win? I’ll decide based on that.
When you say, “The submission cannot have won another contest for another con.” Do you mean any kind of award (e.g. Best Romance / Best Comedy) or just “Best In Show?”
No. But don’t give me something along the lines of a 25 minute monster if you can help it.
Is there a time limit on your video?
That’s perfectly fine.
Ah, what about complete remixes of the music that was featured in the given Anime, would that be acceptable?
It will depend on how many entries are received and the length of time we have to air the contest… which will depend on what other events are planned. We hope to show as many as possible, but we won’t know for sure until closer to the con.
Will all the entries be shown to the audience?
