Anime Syracuse is holding two art contests for the Anime Syracuse 2011 Festival!
What do we want?
We are looking for original artwork to be used on souvenir merchandise, t-shirts, buttons, and other items. Contest entries may also be used on our website, signs, badges, program book and convention advertising.
All artwork entered into the contest must feature one of our three mascots, Lil’ Witch, Salty the Cat or Wazzit the wazzit.
We are holding one contest specifically for black and white t-shirt designs and one that will be used for other full-color souvenir goods, badges and program book.
The contest is open to all artists, professional and amateur. Artists may submit as many entries as they wish.
Prizes:
Full-color Art contest:
Winner will have their artwork printed on the cover of our program book and receive a free artist alley table! (Includes 1 free badge to the Festival!)
Second place will have their artwork printed on the badges of the convention and receive $20 in dealer dollars that can be spent at any artist or dealer table at the festival!
Second place will have their artwork used in convention materials (inside the program book, on signs, or other souvenir materials) and receive $20 in dealer dollars!
The Black and White contest:
The winner of the Black and White T-shirt Contest will receive $20 in dealer dollars that can be spent at any artist or dealer table at the convention!
Winners will be decided by the members of the organizing committee of Anime Syracuse 2011. All decisions are final.
Art Requirements:
Full-color versions of artwork submitted to the black and white contest may be submitted to the black and white contest and vice-versa. However, the T-shirt design should be bold black and white with little to no gray gradients and sharp, clean lines so it can be easily reproduced on T-shirts. Ideal entries should have a plain white or irregular shaped background. Shirts will most likely be printed on white t-shirts.
Keep in mind your artwork may be used on anything from a 1 inch button to an advertising poster, so artwork that can be easily reprinted, resized with bold colors and clean lines are favored.
Artwork can be created by any method, computer, pen, markers, paint or macaroni noodles, but entries must be submitted in 600 dpi digital files. Lower resolution entries can be submitted for judging as long as high resolution copies are available upon request.
Characters can be dressed and posed as the artist chooses as long as they aren’t dressed like a copyright characters and the poses do not mimic copyright/trademarked artwork. Artwork that is too adult, hentai, demeaning, or that do not feature at least one of our mascots will not be accepted.
Please review our “About the Mascots” section to familiarize yourself with the characters. Certain aspects of the character must be maintained (Lil’ Witch’s two peaked hat, Salty must be white, Wazzit must be…Wazzit) and be recognizable.
You may include the logo and year in your entry, but it is not required. You can submit two versions, one with the year and one without.
All entries are due by August 1st , 2011.
About our Mascots:
Here’s some info to help you with your designs.
Lil’ Witch is the mascot of Anime Syracuse. She has two friends, Salty the cat and Wazzit the….wazzit. Her goal is to make things that happen in anime real with her magic. Lil’ Witch is still learning so she has more enthusiasm then talent. Salty tends to be the voice of reason when he can, though without opposable thumbs he finds it hard to reign her in sometimes. Wazzit pretty much just does his own thing, mostly loving to eat, drink and watch the insanity. He lives on Lil’ Witch’s hat and prefers the view from there, though he’s been known to jump off and explore now and then.
Lil’ Witch is a young girl in her preteen to teenage years, with red hair and green eyes. She always wears a hat with two peaks, and has a yellow “smilie face” button that likes to react to what’s going on. She likes to dress primarily in blue and has a fondness for purple accessories. Her most common outfit is a blue dress with a pleated skirt, brown belt, and purple and blue arm and leg warmers; but she likes to cosplay in the style of different anime (though usually not as a particular character). She often wears her hair in pigtails and rides a flying broom.
Salty is a boy cat, mostly white with spots of gray on his head (between his ears and on the back of his head) and the tip of his tail. He’s proud and doesn’t like a lot of nonsense, but he’s very loyal to Lil’ Witch so is always getting caught up despite himself. That’s why he usually looks worried, annoyed or scared, usually annoyed. Sometimes Lil’ Witch dresses him up to match her, which he hates!
Wazzit is a wazzit. What’s a Wazzit? Wazzits are little fluffballs with mismatched eyes, fang teeth that poke out when they smile, and curly tails. Sometimes the tail gets mistaken for a long curl of hair, but it is there and it can hold on to things, but it’s not very strong. Sometimes he seems to use his fur like hands (mostly to hold drinks or food, but sometimes to hold on to Lil’ Witch’s hat.) Wazzits are party animals, and really laid back. No matter how crazy it is, Wazzit is usually smiling and joining in, though even he can be taken by surprise. We think he’s a boy, but we’re not sure if Wazzits have genders but we do know there are more of them and they come in lots of colors. Our Wazzit is brown.
