    I think at one point there was an anime club at the Fayetteville Free Library, but a quick search of their site turned up nothing. Perhaps the person who was running the club is no longer there. If I get a chance, I will stop by and see the status of the club and see if they would be interested in getting it up and running again. I run an afterschool club at the school I work at, so I am familiar with many of the titles that are more student friendly, though they can be hard to come by. I generally warn parents that there may be an occasional he*l or da*m and I usually use Naruto as my benchmark. If parents are okay with their child watching that, then I feel comfortable showing anime that contains a similar amount of violence, language, and risque images.

    I’ll pass your comment along to the rest of the team, Chuck. There does seem to be a demand for a junior group, but we’re stretched pretty thin with the events we do so far. I don’t know if we could manage another group, though if an independent one formed we’d love to link to them and direct people their way when appropriate.

  3. Chuck says:

    From the comments here it sounds like there is a big demand for a “junior” group of CNY anime/manga fans. Perhaps this club would be willing to sponsor an affiliate group for “tweens” (maybe 7-14yrs) where they could provide some mentoring or advice to these future adult members. If the leaders are willing to help such a junior group, please indicate so. If that option does not interest the leaders of this club then please say that as well. Perhaps if an independant club was formed for the under 15 crowd, this club website would be willing to at least provide a reference link to a an alternate website for a kids anime/manga club in CNY? (I could help setup a website if there are other adults willing to help organize a club for their kids)

    @Kamina1123
    Unfortunately, we do not have any shops in the central NY area that I am aware of that caters specifically to anime fans. There are places to buy anime and mange, but not a lot of other anime themed merchandise. If you are looking for a place to buy generic accessories to go with a costume, you can try Dougherty’s Masquerade on Erie Blvd. Some of the vendors at our events may carry cosplay items. If you are looking to get your costume ready before an event, I suggest looking on the internet at places like rightstuf.com, jlist.com, or ebay.

    looking for a good local shop for anime/cosplay gear, any suggestions?

  6. Cody Thomas says:

    anime…Anime…ANIME…ANIME!!! ANIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANIME IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Sorry, I failed to mention my sister loves anime as well…

  8. Are there absolutely no exceptions for the “No one under the age of 15″ rule? I’m 13 but my sister is 15, am I still not permitted into the meeting?

  9. Mitch says:

    Im 14 but im turning 15 really soon so am i able to go or do i have to wait?

  10. Lorri says:

    Hi. I have a daughter who’s twelve and had a big addiction to anime. Is she allowed to come? I don’t mind is she watches anything gory or with a little cleavage and stuff, but no sex (which on the FAQ it says no hentai, which makes me relieved.) She told me to write that she’s watched… Higurashi no naku koro na? ni? I don’t know… and then something called Chobits. I suppose she wants to prove that she’s mature enough, and I believe she is. Is she still allowed to go, despite her age? Please answer, she’s really anxious to find out… Plus I don’t think she wants to wait three years XD;

    OMG!! MY MOM ACUALLY SAID I COULD GO!!!!!!!!!! WOOT! Also I think she said that her collieges (sp?)’s dauther goes to them and shes a couple years older than me and my mom would trust me with her! Plus the ones at shoppingtown she could do her shopping while im in the room! I’m probably somtimes going 2 bring my friends too!!! I cant go to todays cuz i have a b-day party to go to, but ill try to catch the next! CYA THARE!

  12. I’ll try to address each question directly -

    First – No limit to how much you can bring, but no need to try and bring your whole collection! I would suggest bring your favorites, or something that everyone may not have seen. Usually people bring several discs, and then we pick whatever we’re in the mood for that day. We try to give everyone a chance, within the hours of the club meeting of course.

    Second – we’re not prejudiced about genres. We do watch everything (except of course Hentai), and we try to alternate between action, drama, and comedy. One of the things we love about anime is there are so many different kinds!

    Third – when we meet in DeWitt we meet in the Friends or the Buckland room. Both are toward the back of the library (actually head toward the sci-fi/graphic novel section!) and there’s large words painted on the walls above each door. When we’re at North Syracuse, their meeting room is to the immediately to the right just after you come through the front doors. If you’re unsure, ask at the circulation desk and they can point you in the right direction – the library staff are very nice. And thanks for asking – we’ll try to get some signage together to make it easier on new members.

    And don’t be fearful – we were all nervous and shy and didn’t know any one else when we came to our first meeting too (I certainly didn’t know what to expect!). Club meetings are very laid back and low key events – no one minds if you’re quiet and hang back during your visits, especially the first few times. And that’s one of the things that makes this such a nice opportunity to meet with other fans!

  13. Kaitlyn says:

    Hi. I want to go to this get together at the library tomorrow and I plan on bringing my cousin. Now the thing is I know both me and my cousin have so much Anime//Manga That we probably couldn’t bring all of our movies and books to this 3 hour session. So The first thing I would like to ask is : Is there a limit to how much we bring?

    Next, even though it’s quite embarrassing to say but I only like to buy Anime//Manga that is romance…is that okay? I’m sorry I am only interested in romance and I didn’t know if that was a problem.

    Last, where in the library would we meet? is there like a sign that shows us where to be involved in this get together or should I ask the library workers? The only reason I ask of this is because I have anxiety badly and I have a phobia of poeple,…so it would be nice if someone guided me to where I would belong so I can feel a litlle at ease.

    Thank You for your time,And I hope to be there
    -Kaitlyn

  14. Katie says:

    Ok, ill wait till im older, my parents never let me watch innopropoit anime, and i totally agree with you :D . lolz plus i get creeped out by anime that has skimpy clothes, or like knifes or like vampire bites…

  15. Merrow says:

    Katie, right now we do 15 and up for our club meetings because thats what a lot of the anime people bring in is rated. We don’t want anyone’s parents to get mad at us for showing their kids something they don’t approve of. But if your Mom or Dad want to come with you at a meeting and they say it’s okay for you to come in the future, we don’t mind having you. Sadly all it takes is one parent complaint and our club might have to close! (so we play it safe)

  16. Katie says:

    *sounds

  17. Katie says:

    Do u have any of the club mettting that people under 15 can go to? :D Just wondering cuz i souns so cool!!

  18. Kiwi Cohen says:

    Um, i was wondering- are there any exceptions for kids under the age of 15 to join? I’m a huge Anime/Manga/Japanese Otaku, and have been looking for any New York Anime Organization that would be accepting new members.

  19. Kelsey says:

    Cool. I really cant wait. I will try to come on the 30th. If not, I will start in June. It sounds totally fun!

    Love anime
